Looking for a project for you or a group to work on to love out loud?
Check out these ideas and if you have questions about any of them feel free to reach out to us at outreach@theconnectinggrounds.com
1. Laundry tubes- you could do a quarter collection and then have kids put $5 in quarters, a tide pod, and a dryer sheet in an empty medicine bottle. These are what it takes to do one load of laundry at a laundry mat which is a HUGE need! These can be donated to the Outreach Center and we can give them out.
Snack bags- you can pack snack bags with non-perishable foods that do not need to be refrigerated. Here is an example of what we put in a bag that we give out for outreach. These can be donated to the Outreach Center and we can give them out.
Peanut butter crackers
Breakfast Bar
Fruit Cup
Pudding Cup
Bottle of Water
Can of pop-top pasta
Package of pop tarts
Beef Jerky
Car Bags- you can make car kits for kids to keep in the cars to give out as they see people when they are with their parents around town. We make them in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag, here is what we put in them for the spring:
1 pair of socks
Peanut Butter Crackers
Beef Jerky
Small package of baby wipes
1 bus pass (you can buy books of 60 at the Transit Station downtown)
Bandaids
Bottle of water
They could also include an encouraging note
Host a Sack Lunch Party: We go through about 200 sack lunches a week at the Outreach center and are always looking for groups that are willing to help us meet this need! We ask that all lunches contain at least five items:
A sandwich, wrap, or main course
A fruit source
A source of protein (beef jerky, boiled egg, protein bar, string cheese, etc…)
A sweet treat
A drink
We also remind everyone that not everyone who will be eating these meals is able to chew hard or crunchy items.
You can sign up to help us meet this need by clicking on the button below.
Make sleeping mats out of plastic bags
Baby Wipes into Bags
You can purchase large boxes of baby wipes in bulk and then break them down into sandwich bags. We hand these out all year long for people who cannot access showers all the time get cleaned up. We love to put these in the refrigerator in the hot weather to help people wipe their faces and skin to cool off. This is a great project for groups to work on and bring into the Outreach Center for us to hand out!
Pet Food Bags
Your group can collect large bags of dog and cat food and then have a time that you break them down into quart or gallon sized bags for us to hand out at the Outreach Center. Please be sure to label the bags with “dog food” or “cat food”.
